By Louis Medden

Early times

Initially, Brondesbury and mapesbury was part of St. Paul's cathedral in the old age as well as Willesden region of kilburm. Mapsbury is located south of Brondesbury currently known as brand's manor and north of Willesden, originally known as mapes.

Gentrified environments

In 1847, Brondesbury was still a rural area with a few houses which were mainly built on Willesden lane. Being located in the hill, it facilitated the building of better quality housing. However, in 1860 Willesden suburban development was initiated, particularly the larger villas in Brondesbury. These villas were very important during First World War as most of them were turned into hostels to serve Belgium refugees.

Mapesbury mill

In 1963 a mill standing in Mapesbury was destroyed by fire. It was due to this fire that led to the formation of Kilburn's volunteer fire services. In 1966 a new parish within Willesden parish, the parish of Christchurch, was formed in Brondesbury.

The 20th century

Shortly after 1901 the metropolitan railway to the north paves way for the building of houses. You will realise that there was a depression of housing market in the beginning of the 20th century which led to no building in the western region of Brondesbury until 1934. However, Mapsbury house located in southern part of the metropolitan region, survived until 1924. That is why Mapesbury was built later than Brondesbury.

Actually, Goldfinger was not a jovial character in Fleming movie. Despite the opinion of Fleming on Goldfinger, the architect is still remembered because of the significant impacts he made on London landscaping. He designed metro central heights formally known as Alexander Fleming house, Balform Tower at elephant and castle and Tower Hamlets respectively. This was where Goldfinger got the idea to improve the Trellick Tower.
