Make Your Home More Energy Efficient

By Maria Valenzuela

Going 'green' means benefits and more savings for their real estate and for those who are curious about this movement, this has been around for quite a long time already. You may also notice that there is always something green on every consumer product that local or multi-national corporations promote.

Basically, 'green' living is an attempt to carry out one's life in an eco-friendly, environmentally responsible manner in order to minimize the size of ones ecological footprint. Moreover, 'green' living is sustainable living. A kind of lifestyle that attempts to reduce an individual's or society's use of the Earth's natural resource and his/her own resources. However, a lot of people think that going 'Green" is expensive, but after the price of gasoline, commodities, heating and electricity have gone up, they have come to realize that going 'green' is worth the initial cost and time spent. So if you think that green living is a luxury, here are inexpensive ways on how to turn your home 'green'.

1. Use building materials that are toxin-free like natural linoleum made from linseed oil and jute, straw board made from wheat and insulating material made from recycled paper, old denim and even soybeans.

2. Update appliances like refrigerator, stove, washer, dryer, dishwasher, and oven toaster from the seventies and eighties with modern, 'Energy Star' efficient ones. You won't only see the long term effects of saving dollars but you will increase the value of your home as well.

3. If it's possible for you to generate your own energy through alternative sources like the sun, geothermal, or wind then that would be great.
