In Case Of Fire - How To Be Alert

By Alex Wiggins

Other disasters can be prevented such as fire, with careful precautions, fire can be averted but none is more dangerous than flash floods all because you are not able to predict when it will happen and where it will happen. A lot of people have fallen victim to flash flood that rose up high above the roof. Here are some of the rules to follow for you to be prepared when floods happen.

Find out how often your place gets flooded when the rainwater reaches critical levels. If your places get flooded often, then you might have to contemplate moving from your neighborhood and seek a higher ground that you can handle. This might not be a bad idea to take care of sooner rather than later.

Know where your community warning system is and be informed of them as well as your family. Warning systems are designated to key areas in your community especially if you are living in a danger zone. Make sure that you are able to receive information quickly.

When you store food and water for the rough times ahead, make sure that they are above the flood water level or everything will be wasted. When you store food, make sure that they can be cooked even without the use of electrical devices or with the use of simple heat like cup noodles.

Have a rechargeable radio with you in case flood is currently happening or you are expecting it to happen and listen for instructions from the government for evacuation or not. They will also be giving you routes that will lead you to higher ground or where safety is.

During floods, be aware of water-covered roads. Do not cross streams or rivers where water is just above the knee and risk putting yourself in danger. Water levels might elevate in a matter of minutes while you are struggling to cross such bodies of water.

Eat well-cooked food and protect leftovers from being exposed or it might go stale in a couple of hours. Make sure that you are drinking safe bottled water and to make sure, boil them.

Report broken utility lines so that they will be fixed once the flood lowers and is under control. Never try to fix them yourself for your convenience as you might create another set of danger for you and your family. That is something that you do not even want to deal with, and you could very well end up being worse off than before if you make a mistake.
