Cascais Real Estate

Cascais is a coastal cosmopolitan town that's a suburb of Lisbon, Portugal. Cascais, Portugal is a short twenty mile drive from the capital and once a small fishing village. Today, Cascais is an exclusive resort town that is nestled on the Estoril coastline. It initially sound its fame as the destination where the royal family of Portugal took their holidays during the late 19th century. In modern history, Cascais was known during the Second World War as a haven for many nobility that were fleeing from Europe because Portugal remained neutral. Nobility from Italy, Spain, Hungary, and Bulgaria flocked to the area. Today, the population of the city is just 35,000, but it's one of Portugal's richest areas.

The town itself is beautiful and picturesque with its quaint cobble stone streets, and it is easy to see why it is held in such high esteem. The architecture is superb, and the town is pure elegance. Many of the houses and mansions that have been built in the area were built by the nobility that settled here. The style is both luxuriously extravagant opulence, and it has continued to attract wealthy people to the area.

Cascais is home to a new marine where the yachts of the rich and famous residents are moored. Near the town's centre you will find a collection of underground caves called the Grutus do Poco Velho that were discovered near the last years of the 19th century. They were found to day back to Neolithic times are one of the major tourist attractions of the area. The nearby sea is the home of the Boco do Inferno, a huge rock just off the town's coast. When strong winds blow, waves that are whipped up crash against the huge rock, creating plumes of spray that reach high in the air and are accompanied by a very loud booming sound. This is how the rock got its name. The translation of Boco do Inferno is The Mouth of Hell.

Because of the close proximity to Lisbon and its quality and rich environs, the city is becoming a playground for the rich young business women and men of Lisbon. They flock to Cascais on the weekends, retreating to their lavish villas to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Cascais offers plenty for them to do. For example, they spend time at the Estoril Casino, one of Europe's largest casinos. They also spend time at the nearby and very splendid 5-star hotel, The Palacio. Several scenes from the famous James Bond movie, "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" were filmed at the hotel. Additionally, Estoril is known across the world for its famous formula one racing circuit that brings the F1 circus to town year after year.

The area is surrounded by stunning beaches that are graced with craggy rocks and cliffs that border the coastline. These beaches have attracted many talented artists that are looking for beautiful seascapes to paint.

There are also excellent facilities for those that enjoy kite surfing, wind surfing, or sailing. The huge waves that roll into nearby Guincho attract surfers from all over the world. For those that love to golf, the area boasts 10 world-class golf courses.

With some of the stunning properties selling for up to 15 million Euros, the area is known to be very exclusive and attracts wealthy people from all over the world. Home prices remain high because of the scarcity of available properly, lending even more exclusivity to this charming coastal town. When you consider the local attractions, stunning scenery, wonderful cuisine, and beautiful weather, its no wonder that Cascais, Portugal is one of the most sought after and exclusive areas for the lucky few that an afford to relocate to it. close
