Living in Wimbledon

By Helena Green

The property market in Wimbledon is booming again after a legendary year of tennis. This is an exceptionally attractive area with many of the more high-end properties in the Wimbledon village area. Over the summer thousands will visit the area, many coming just for the tennis fortnight.

Many Wimbledon residents take a vacation during tennis peak season, aware that they can rent their properties for high rental fees during the tournament. A few of the world tennis greats that may rent these properties will stroll the shops of the town with their guests. Trendy shops are filled with trinkets that shoppers will enjoy.

If you are serious about buying an investment property then Wimbledon is an ideal place. During the tennis fortnight rents go up and the closer to the club you are, them more you may be able to make. With many matches being played over 19 grass courts, there will be players, coaches, families and fans all looking for somewhere to stay.

Finding a place to eat is easy with the great variety of food and beverage locations in the village and in nearby communities. Bistros, pubs and cafes create a nice atmosphere for chatting about the day's activities and to mix with locals.

Over the years Wimbledon has become quite versatile in its style of homes. Modern luxury apartments are certainly available but the splendid Edwardian terraces and picturesque Victorian homes are also all over the area. The transport links are very convenient.

Living on the edge of a major city like London has many advantages. It's easy to travel into the city if necessary and get to see some of the landmarks there. You can then just as easily travel home to the relative quiet of Wimbledon.

Wimbledon is in the spotlight when the tennis is on but the lovely scenery away from the tennis court is rarely televised. The neat streets and the lovely gardens are missed by television cameras; and so is the lifestyle of Wimbledon.

Wimbledon Common is one of the largest green spaces in London, extending over 1000 acres. The land has wooded areas as well as plains and it is a haven for those who like activities such as cycling, walking and running. At certain points you are in the country even though you are in the city.

Around the Wimbledon Common area there are some lovely homes. Many families move here because of the green space and the good schools. Wimbledon Common also has the famous windmill to visit.

The transport to Wimbledon is excellent. There are tubes, trams and buses serving the area with quick links to Waterloo, Clapham Junction and the City. You can get across the city very quickly and easily.
