San Francisco Warehouse Space Has Many Uses

By Sharlene Fleming

San Francisco warehouse district is a first-rate investment today. The square footage of a big building like this has endless possibilities. And, at today's prices, is now quite a discount. Changing them into suburban living areas is considered one of the most well-favored uses. A mix of recent materials and old resources make these structures an original living experience.

For example, exposed beams and wooden floors above make an attractive ceiling. The old material is sandblasted using baking soda to remove the paint. Baking soda is used so the wood below the paint is not damaged. Afterwards, the exposed wood can be stained or left natural. Utilities are run inside of decorative boxes that are suspended from the high ceilings.

Gas and plumbing lines are likely to be painted black and then left exposed. That is what gives the area such an original feeling. Electric lighting can also be suspended over the ceiling above. Parts of the wall board might be sheetrock. Other sections might be a mixture of brick and marble.

Anywhere the initial wood is left exposed is used to get the right look. The old materials including the newest materials gives the completed living area a modern appeal. Floors may be refinished in numerous ways. One method would be to stain and varnish them. A different way is to put in a brand new floor system over the old floor material.

Nevertheless, carpet will never be deployed for such a design. This is certain. Stairways are generally made using steel. The metal is primed and painted black. Special pains use a sandy substance, which prevents slipping and falling. The handrails are minimal, but paint to match. All of the colors go together. Then, modernized fixtures and appliances are found in the kitchen.

However, instead of using residential style cabinets the builder usually uses a combination of concrete and stainless steel. Concrete counter tops can be stained to match the existing materials in the ceiling or the floor. Stainless steel cabinets give the kitchen a commercial appearance.

Next, commercial style refrigerators oversize stoves are installed to match the stainless steel cabinets. This truly gives the space a spectacular look. Most people feel this is an unusual kitchen. The air conditioning and heating systems are also run using steel or style boxes that suspend above. A main trunk goes down the center with smaller trunks going to the individual rooms. The delicate vents are exposed, but they are finished matches the room.

Truly, large warehouses provide multiple functions and purposes these days. They no longer are used just for storage. Entire shopping malls are now made out of old warehouses and they offer the shopper a unique experience. For instance, downstairs may be a restaurant. The second and third floors may be dedicated just to shopping.

The top floor may be dedicated as a nightclub or may be a movie theater. The designer's imagination can run wild because there is so much square footage in a San Francisco warehouse. And, at today's prices, this can equal a huge savings for the investor.
