5 Strategies for Making Your Move Safe

By Dan M.

I've spent 10 years in the commercial moving industry. After ten years in the business, my organization deserves the reputation as the careful Phoenix movers. These five strategies are the tips I share with the people and businesses we move to ensure we have an simple and efficient move. I trust they help you.

1. Travel Light: Be sure that the movables can be moved with ease. Do not make the items too heavy to move. The boxes should be loaded to the point to where only one person can lift the box. This may cut back the possibility of mishaps or wounds.

2. Insulate Items from Breaking: Ensure all items are carefully and thoroughly wrapped. Make use of old newspapers to insulate your breakable items. So long as you use newspaper to wrap your frail items, there's a good chance they will not get broken.

3. Make a Cushy Working Environment: Make sure your home is cooled or heated with good lighting for anyone who helps you move. This will make them more comfortable in packing or moving your items. Providing water for your assistants (keeping them hydrated) will promote even safer moving. If you have pets, ensure they are safely secured. You might even label the room's door for where the pet is found to avoid letting the pet run out.

4. Shield Against Weather: Make efforts to put additional plastic, carpet or tarp around your belongings to guard against the elements such as rain, sunlight or snow.

5. Packing: Be sure you follow these rules when packing for your residence:

1. Always pack small items in newspapers.
2. Pack all fragile items in newspapers.
3. Make sure all boxes are packed to the point at which they aren't over flowing.
4. Ensure the items are placed in the garage.
5. Mark the boxes obviously on where they are meant to go.
6. If working with a professional mover, make up a blueprint of where all of the moved items will be placed.
7. All wooden items have to be unloaded as the moving around of the weight will damage the wood. All vertical filing cupboards can remain stocked. In regards to lateral filing cupboards make sure the top 2 - 3 cupboards are unloaded out. When marking on chairs, make sure the labels are placed on the arm of the chair.

Preparing your house before your move will promote a safe and trouble-free moving experience for everybody who helps you. Happy moving!
