Ways to Begin Finding Movers in New York City

By Laura Hawn

When you start looking for movers NYC, you might feel overwhelmed at the large range of choices by simply looking in your local Yellow Pages telephone book, magazine, or other physical listing column. In reality, there are really plenty more simple methods to find NYC movers without needing to call each and every moving company in N.Y.C. one at a time.

Firstly, start by looking online for NYC moving firms. You can check these companies out by looking at the Better Business Bureau's internet site and/or reading online reviews about these corporations. You might even be able to register for a Hoover's account, which will allow you to take a look at far more fine details about the moving firms in your area.

You can see who actually owns the company, that it is a business in good standing and that it's all the things it claims to be in whatever advertisement you saw or read. If you are happy with the reviews and the Better Business Bureau's website report and the Hoover's or other investigative report you have read, then you can go on to making a spreadsheet to keep track of what moving firms you are most interested in.

Call the moving firms that you have listed in your spreadsheet and let them know if you've got any especially heavy furniture that must be moved, such a piano or organ, which could noticeably change the cost of your move. You may then need to also let the movers know if you are moving vehicles or anything that is particularly oddly shaped or will need extra care.

Once the mover has all this information, they are usually able to offer you an immediate quote. In fact, many web sites will enable you to enter this information right on their website and then the moving company will either supply you with an instant quote or they will call you with an appraisal so that you can then add this information to your comparison spreadsheet, too.
