Contemporary Jewelry - A Modern Day Vogue Popular With Marilyn Monroe

By Adrian Jones

Celebrity Contemporary Jewelry Is To Be Sold At Auction

When contemporary jewelry pre-owned by any celebrity comes up for sale, there's often a sizable rise in curiosity and record sale prices are generally attained. The most recent news about the gem stones of the megastars is the fact that Marilyn Monroe's wedding band, from her short-lived marriage to Joe DiMaggio is for sale. The platinum item from a nine month marital relationship with the famous star of the baseball pitch has become available on the market. This specific wedding ring is a platinum eternity band, set with 35 baguette-cut diamonds (though 1 is now missing).

Monroe met DiMaggio for the very first time at an Italian diner in Hollywood on Sunset Boulevard. There was instant chemistry between the two and following a torrid but brief timeframe they got married in a non-public civil ceremony at San Francisco City Hall in 1954, away from the eyes of the public, quite rare for 2 individuals used to being in the spot light.

Regrettably, the marriage was strained from the start. DiMaggio was invited to visit the set of the motion picture The Seven Year Itch, where he observed the well-known filming of Marilyn positioned over a subway grating fighting to prevent her clothing from billowing upwards. DiMaggio immediately stormed off in a rage and they got divorced just 2 weeks later - nowhere near the infamous "seven year itch".

Contemporary Jewelry Worn By A True Star of Stage and Screen

This contemporary jewelry ring from the wedding ceremony is anticipated to sell for $300,000 to $500,000. The auction in December is getting staged by Profiles, a Californian company that also auctioned the legendary subway dress worn by Marilyn Monroe, as a portion of the Debbie Reynolds Collection which was sold last summer, fetching $5.52 million dollars and shattering Guinness Book Records.

Also up for auction is an original color art work by Earl Moran showing a young and unclothed Marilyn Monroe in a relaxed pose from a modelling session circa 1948-1949. Earl Moran was considered to be probably the most significant artist of this time. The painting is expected to sell for $70,000 to $90,000.

A pair of Dorothy's well-known dark red slippers are being sold in this same auction. Coming from the movie The Wizard of Oz, they are expected to create far more desire and attention than Monroe's wedding ring. Nevertheless a pre-auction guesstimate implies that these slippers are worth between $2 and $3 million. The pair offered for sale at the auction is one of many pairs of ruby slippers employed in the making of the film. This pair are stated to be those pictured when Judy Garland clicks her heels at the very end of the film. Whether or not that is the honest truth or fiction has yet to be established!

Contemporary jewelry doesn't have to be high priced, in particular for those who obtain new pieces from web sites, as opposed to buying at auction. The contemporary engagement rings as well as other pieces you'll come across could well be fit for a star, but suit the purse of a somewhat more subtle character.
