Ten Fundraising Tips To Help Your Good Cause

By Allan Marsh

If you're looking for a fundraising project for a school, sports team or construction project you will find the following useful for you.

Here are ten great ideas that could make your fund raising efforts translate into a meaningful success.

Take a long, hard look at your data bank of volunteers. What are the chances they can be of assistance? Don't make assumptions on who will donate and who will not donate - pay no heed to past donation history. Create a winning game plan that will behoove people to donate.

Who is your target audience? You can expect about 25 -20% of your database to contribute. But here's the kicker - in many cases, only a small fraction of them would really be interested and dedicated donors! They must be willing to contribute from their own coffers and not others'.

When is the best time to ask for donations? Timing is crucial in fundraising.

How will you word your request for help? Look at other people's efforts and find out what has worked in the past.

Energy and enthusiasm make the difference. Try to get volunteers with the time and energy to put into the project.

How much money do you intend on raising for the good cause? The key word here is "definite" - "about" a hundred thousand pounds, for instance, won't cut it, it has to be "certainly" a hundred thousand pounds, so you can tailor-fit your fund raising efforts towards hitting that goal.

Make sure that you are asking the right amount from everybody involved. You would want to be sure that you are providing something that is commensurate to the price that you are asking from your potential donors. If the answer is no then your funds will not be boosted this time.

What intangible tools do you have in your toolbox? By this we would be referring to experience, and as stated above, energy and enthusiasm. What specific fundraising activities have they engaged in, and have their efforts sufficiently impressed you? Go through a list of these with the people in your project.

Fighting spirit helps. Fundraising has destroyed many an individual financially, emotionally AND mentally, believe us, so you want to keep your crew motivated all throughout the fundraising event. Remind them that you're all in it as a team and your efforts to raise money are going to a good cause.

Keep on keeping on. See the forest for the trees. In order to achieve the best results possible, you as an active member of the team, must keep your spirits up and striving for more cash. Determination is the best, and only way to raise as much cash as you could.

By taking heed of the tips above your fund raising activity will have the best chance possible to raise funds for your club or organization.

With the right amount of planning, your event could become a tremendous success, and (spoiler start) increase your funds in the process! (spoiler end)
