Know The Acknowledge The Steps Obtaining A Green Card

By Dan Overmeyer

There are some very important steps you will need to take when obtaining a green card. The first thing you will need to do is to make the determination of the specific category of green card you will need.

Another important step is obtaining a permanent residence status in the US. You can achieve this either by employer or family sponsored means. There are different steps involved depending on which route you choose to take. So you have to check all the points and steps before applying it.

If you make the decision to go the employer route, I-40 is the Form you will be needed to fill out. This very important alien worker immigration form will then be filed with the USCIS.

The agency will review the completed form and make the decision of whether or not an interview is a viable option. If a foreigner decides to file for a visa through a family sponsor, they will be required to either be engaged or married to a US citizen. They will need to fill a K-1 fiancee form or an I-130 form.

There is also a Form I-485 known as the application to apply for permanent residence. This is the form that actually refers to obtaining a green card. Once the worker receives an approved visa, they can then apply for permanent residence status.

If a foreigner is engaged, they must get married within 90 days of receiving their visa. If you wish, you can also apply for a visa by family member sponsorship. You can apply through a sibling or a parent, although they need to be a US citizen. This process is lengthy and can often take up to 5 years to be approved. Your relative will be required to file an I-130 Form and once the visa is received, you can then apply for the card by filling out the Form I-485.
