Can we all get along? Occasionally we are able to, other times it may not be possible. Nobody (usually) wants to gripe about a noisy neighbour, because in some ways, being part of a community is very like being part of a family. We all watch each other's homes, children playing in the street, and try our best to greet and smile at each other day after day, but what do you do when one of your neighbors is being far too loud? Everyone is loud at sometime or another, but if you live next to a neighbour who is loud frequently, it can be intensely annoying, and can even interrupt your sleep. So what are you able to do? Well, you're in luck! These are some healthy living tips from none other than Kimberly Kelly:
Is it him or me?
The first thing you must consider is, are you being unreasonable? A tacit rule is exorbitant noise should not be heard after 11 o'clock at night on a weekday, but the weekends are far more flexible, generally expecting a cut-off time between midnight or a bit later on. If your neighbour is blasting music after these times, you actually have grounds to complain. But , if you're griping at ten o'clock at night because you want to wake up early the following morning, it's not actually the neighbour's problem. You cannot expect everybody else to switch their habits for your schedule. You can try "white noise" when you are in bed early, which may drown out most sounds when you're trying to sleep. White noise can be from a fan next to your bed, music, or even a white noise machine.
It is time to make communication
If your neighbor is being overly loud past the previously mentioned times, and it has occurred several times, it's time to make them aware it's troubling you. You can decide to do that in one of three ways:
- You can call your neighbour if you have their number.
- Go to their front door, and let them know they are disturbing you.
- Leave them a note so they'll be in a position to see it and read it the following day.
This is a step often out of consideration. Since you are neighbors, you shouldn't act in a way that will make it uncomfortable when you see each other again. If after this step you are still coming up against issues with the noisy neighbor, you are going to be forced to take it up a notch.
Last chance
If your neighbor was having a party and disturbed you, there's a chance they may not remember you calling or showing up at their door, so visit them in the daytime. This also will be helpful because if you left them a note, it's possible they did not see it. Pay them a visit, and express to them how self centered the loud noise is. An amicable conversation should hopefully make them mindful of how loud they're being.
Get'em boys!
If you have followed the advice above, and still have a loud neighbor, it's time to bring out the enormous guns. You have given them a chance to change their habits, but if they continue to be excessively loud, they're just doing it to be rude. Now it is time to call the cops. The Police aren't usually going to do too much, but more times than not, it will convince a neighbor to keep it down.
The majority need to gel with their neighbors, but if one of them is driving you insane, it's time to handle it. There's a time and a place for everything, and there is no place for loud noise, especially when it is very late in the night.
