Good nutrition for business performance

By Dave Curran

To make a business successful you need someone who can make quick and clear decisions in stressful circumstances. The decisions that you make may turn out to be a financial blunder or may bring about fantastic improvements in your returns. You probably don't pay much attention to it but good nutrition can have a major impact on the clarity of your thinking and the ability to make good decisions.

Many studies have been done showing the impact of breakfast on a child's performance at school. The same applies in your working life. Your body goes through a period of 'fasting' through the night. This is why you break the fast ('breakfast') in the morning, and give your body the nutrients it needs for the day.

Good nutrition involves taking enough fruits and vegetables. Take healthy fruit juices instead of ten cups of coffee. Basically, things that you probably already know but often ignore.

If you are taking a well-balanced diet, you are sure to get your daily supply of vitamins, minerals, and fibers. These essential nutrients will determine whether your body and brain have the required energy to go from one meeting to the other, analyze each and every option, and take a decision that improves your business.

A good diet is important for a successful businessman. However, you need more than just a good diet to help you make quick decisions and deal with highly stressful situations. Supplements can really help you here in bringing an improvement in mood, awareness and focus.

You can choose from among quite a few supplements that are easily available these days. Consider lecithin, which is an important compound for our body but our diet often does not provide enough of it. Lecithin has been found to improve memory and concentration in people suffering from Alzheimer's disease and it is definitely beneficial for normal people as well.

Phosphatidylcholine is a compound often present in many nutritional supplements. It is often combined with lecithin and helps the body and brain from recovering from stress. This compound will improve your mood as well as your ability to make quick and smart decisions.

Probably the most popular supplement to relieve anxiety, improve sleep and relieve depression and sadness are krill oil supplements. These are made from the oil of the flesh of cold water fish such as salmon or krill and usually contain compounds such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). These are quite effective in relieving stress and anxiety and improving mood.
