A Chance to Buy New Tools for the Kitchen

By Barbara Moss

Work has rather been on the back shelf, lately. We've got our house on the market and if anything is meant to destroy a routine, this is it! We are intending to move to the United Kingdom on a full-time basis and this decision has generated several issues, not the least of which is 'what kitchen bits and pieces do we take with us? ' Should we sell everything and replace it there, or should we pack everything up and take it with us?

Our huge Electrolux refrigerator will never fit into the type of kitchen we will be able to afford in the UK, so that must stay! Washing machine and dryer also. We have, actually a brand new Magimix food processor still boxed - never opened - that we will certainly take. Also a Kenwood Rice Cooker in the same state. I believe M and I'll have one or two 'full and frank ' talks about smaller stuff. My wooden spurtles and my recently acquired immersion blender are a definite 'yes ', while all his top-quality knives and saute pans will qualify too. As to my stand mixer, blenders, pots and pans and small items like rolling pins, baking tins and baking tins etc, they have all given great service over time and truly could do with being replaced.

Oh, the memories, though - can I bear to part with them? My Polaris copper-bottomed, stainless steel saucepans were a most welcome present 30-odd years back. I used all my bake tins when I cooked in our cafe. And what about all my Pyrex bowls and the jugs with which I measure? They are still fit for service, if a bit battered and could definitely tell a little story or two! I assume the choices will need to be made as we progress with the packing!

Presently, we reckon we will sell as much as is possible, give away some of the odds and ends and just take personal stuff and a few extra special pieces of furniture with us. This may well change. Unfortunately, not very much profit in pre-loved hand furniture now! On the other hand, how cool would it be to start over and Shop! Shop! Shop! In those beautiful English stores.

And think seriously about the reviews I'm going to be inspired read and write!
