Whether you have a Broker or Not, you Need to Educate Yourself on Investments

By Cameron Stein

The first time you took a look at the stock market pages in the newspaper or on TV, you undoubtedly said something close to "Holy cow, I'll never learn about this stuff." You then went out and hired a broker so you wouldn't have to delve into the impossible enigma of the stock market and trading. You needed someone with expert knowledge of investing and trading in the stock market.

That is all well and good. But let's take another look at it. You are no expert on toxicology, but you know better than to drink from a bottle labeled "arsenic." That stuff is lethal. You know that if someone suggests you take arsenic for your illness, they are not dealing with your best interest at heart. You will not take their advice because it could definitely be hazardous to your health.

Are you able to say something similar about stock market investments? Do you have enough awareness to know about stocks and trading to save yourself if the market tanks? Or are you one of those unfortunates who will find themselves taking a long run on a short pier when you find out your "expert" broker is only a legend in his own mind?

Gaining the Necessary Knowledge of the Stock Market can be Intimidating, but...

No one wants to think that the trusted broker that came on so full of knowledge and integrity will make a ghastly mistake with your money, and no one wants to see their stock investments go down the toilet right before retirement. This should force you to learn enough about the stock market to know when an error is being made, or when an outstanding opportunity arises. This is true whether you are doing all your own trading or trusting someone else to do it for you. Hey, it's your money.

The most important thing for you to remember is that learning the basic pieces of stock market trading is vital, but perhaps even more crucial is that you believe in yourself and your financial future enough to understand that you really are capable of learning the basics of stock investment and can even go beyond the basics without too much stress and strain.

So Who Are You Going to Learn From?

The news is full of stories of men and women who just sat down with the papers on a daily basis, started identifying patterns in the stock market, tuned into the news every morning and were billionaires in a matter of weeks. If you want to go this route you can, of course, but I personally would recommend taking a more formal approach, a customizable program designed for rank beginners that will teach you the ins and outs of the stock market. A program that provides an option for more advanced training and, most importantly, connects you with real people with real experience that will help you.

The last thing is, I think, the most important when it comes to choosing a program. Before you go out on the web and say yes to the first one to come knocking on your door, make sure you take the time to find out who you're going to be working with. And then enjoy the power that comes from knowing that your financial future is sitting in your hands.
