Man And Van Companies - How To Avoid The Rogues

By James Williamson

If you're looking to move home then a man and truck is usually a less expensive option then using a large-scale removals company. By cutting their expenses, a typical man and van operator can save you up to 50% over a removals company. Whilst this may seem an attractive offer for those looking to move home on the cheap, you have to be careful when appointing a person and lorry. Because there aren't any rules covering the industry, it does attract 1 or 2 too many cowboys especially as al you need is an inexpensive wagon and some muscle. To avoid using a rogue man and van we strongly suggest you stick to the following tips when making a decision on who to help with your move:

1. Insurance - the are 2 fundamental kinds of insurance you need to insure the person and van has in place; public liability and good in transit. The latter will cover you if any of your items are damaged while in transit so it is critical if any of your items are of value.

2. References - if a person and van is able to provide a list of previous roles they have worked on you can at least check with the previous consumers to check they were OK with their service. Otherwise, you can always check on-line by typing 'reviews of ABC Man & Van'.

3. Experience - because it's so straightforward to set yourself up as a man and wagon, you might find the operator you use has small experience of helping people move home. Be under no illusion that moving a large settee up a flight of steps requires an amount of talent you can only secure with experience.

If you have got any doubts at all about a person and lorry then trust your instincts and walk off. If they are not able to provide real evidence that they can stick to all three of the above elements than we would suggest you somewhere else.
