Homeowner's Insurance: Is It Really Necessary?

By Adam Ciboch

Having homeowner's insurance is a way to be sure that accidents do not turn into a total loss of property or money. If an accident does occur on your property, you can rest easy, knowing that your financial liability is taken care of. This liability is not only for the cost of making the home new again, it will also take care of many other issues homeowners may face.

When a home has yet to be completely paid off, insurance is a requirement, so that the loan holder can protect their investment. Even if a person owes nothing on their homes, homeowner's insurance is still very important.

Homeowner's insurance will cover the cost of completely replacing your home, which means that you can be assured any repairs you may have to have done will be covered. In the event that the house is completely destroyed, the amount which you have paid in premiums will most likely be far less than the cost of completely rebuilding. Homeowner's insurance will pay for the complete restoration of the home, meaning that even in older homes, the exact type of construction which was used before will be used again. You will not have to settle for cheaper, less sturdy work, but will have exactly what your home was before the incident. Also, anyone who may have been injured will be covered as well.

So if a storm causes a tree to fall on your home, and damage the rock chimney in the livingroom, as well as the livingroom walls, you are covered to rebuild an exact replica of that room and chimney. And if your friend was over watching the game as the accident occurred, and was injured in the incident, his medical bills are covered as well. Loss of use is also covered, which means that if you cannot live in the home because of the damage, the insurance company will pay for alternative lodging for you and your family, until the home is repaired.

Most families in today's economy simply cannot afford to repair a damaged home at the same time they are covering the doctor bills of an injured person and paying for a hotel to live in while their home is worked on, and therefore they would likely lose everything without insurance. With that being the case, insurance on the home is not just a positive suggestion, but a necessity.
