Property For Sale In Atlanta

By Thomas Manning

Brookhaven homes for sale in Atlanta are located in an unincorporated community northeast of Atlanta, Georgia, on the western side of DeKalb County. The area is composed of several different neighborhoods, popular for their low taxes and proximity to downtown and midtown Atlanta. The community has its own Facebook Group, where residents post everything from advertisements about local businesses to notices about lost pets. It accessible from the north by Interstate 285 and Interstate 81 from the east.

John Evans, a European, was the first person to settle permanently in the town. Harris and Samuel Goodwin soon followed and planted roots in the 1830s. A university, the campus of which now appear on the National Register of Historic Places, was established in the town in 1835, which, in 1915, was moved to Peachtree Road.

The first homes in the area were built by the residents of Atlanta as summer homes early in the 20th Century. There is a nine-hole golf course that opened in 1912 that was designed by architect Herbert Barker. Thus Brookhaven developed as one of the nation's first golf course communities. At first, a lot of the area was incorporated with North Atlanta but was disincorporated in the 1960s, when the name of the town slowly evolved from North Atlanta to Brookhaven. Although part of the area's attraction is its low taxes as a result of its unincorporated status, a movement began in the early 21st Century to incorporate the community.

Brookhaven Fields is a neighborhood of 700 homes next to the Brookhaven Metropolitan Area Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) stop, 15 minutes' drive from downtown Atlanta and a short drive down Peachtree Road from major shopping areas. A mixture of people from all political parties, the residents pride themselves on their ability to get along with each other, and enjoy monthly ice cream socials.

The Fields is served by half a dozen schools, i. E., two elementary schools, two middle schools and two high schools. In the '50s, most of the houses were tiny bungalows, but now many homes are 3000 square feet or more in size. A lot of the houses have large basements with fully equipped media rooms and high ceilings (10 feet).

Another neighborhood, Brookhaven Renaissance, provides an oasis of suburban life tucked inside the Atlanta city limits. A small, gated community of just 54 homes off Dresden Drive and about a mile away from the nearest MARTA station, the area was established in 1999. While some homes back onto wooded area, Renaissance is close to Ashford Park and shopping.

The homes in the Village contain European-style master bathrooms and gourmet kitchens. Residents enjoy low county taxes. The Village Association (BVA) have monthly meetings where they pursue their aims of protecting the interests of the residents, in particular the hamlet's natural beauty. They organize and administer funds for scholarships, trees and the environment. As many as 16 historic cemeteries house the final resting places of the area, which was formerly known as the Fire Place.

In the Heights, the homes command good prices (USD 600,000 to USD 1,000,000), despite the seemingly restrictive 50-foot widths of most of the lots. Most have media rooms, fabulous kitchens and wine cellars. This neighborhood contains 400 homes bordered by North Druid Hills Road and Peachtree Road.
