New Modern Furniture In The World Today

By Adriana Noton

The importance is to know what makes modern furniture what it is. It should not be taken as meaning contemporary. It has a particular styling and design which qualifies it as modern. It does have a place in the contemporary world, but it has to have the elements which classify it as such.

Even if it is not contemporary, however, it can be made contemporary in that you can use it in your 21st century home. There are replicas of these pieces available and you are able to decorate your home in that style. You cannot change the styling and design of the furniture as it belongs to a specific period and it carries certain marks of identification.

The way to recognize it is to look at the line, shape, color and materials which were used. This type of furniture has clean lines and makes use of basic shapes such as the square, the circle and the rectangle. The last few years have seen a revival in this type of design. It is able to fit together perfectly and, hence, it makes for very practical and stylish decor.

Apart from the straight lines, squares and rectangles, they also introduced curved lines. The different aspects include sofas, chairs, cupboards and tables. The materials are also an indication of the period which is vinyl, plywood, acrylic (which was also available in transparent form) and chrome. The vinyl was used in place of leather and the legs of were most often in tubular chrome. The seating was more likely to be in colored acrylic or vinyl. The idea behind this was for practicality and affordability.

The tables are a good example of modular trend of this period. The chairs, sofas and tables have this same feature. It fitted or fits into each other and can be used in a variety of ways. The colours are usually neutral with splashes of bright primary or secondary colors. It is the epitome of periods 1950 through 1960.

The designers responsible for the set "rules" for modern furniture are Le Corbusier, Josef Hoffman, Arne Jacobsen and Eero Aarnio to name a few. They have been able to create unique designs in their own right. The designs which cannot be easily be topped. For example, Le Corbusier's created the (perfect) square chair which was surrounded by the chrome frame. Josef Hoffman was famed for his Kubus styled chairs.

The swan chairs can be attributed to Arne Jacobsen and Eero Aarnio was responsible for the ball chair which was also interpreted into a hanging transparent ball. These designers did well in the aesthetics of their designs as well as creating very comfortable seating and stylish modern furniture Toronto for most homes.

These highly trained designers have been able to create pieces which can only be repeated and hardly ever matched. It is in its simple application of Le Corbusier's golden ratio which makes his chairs and sofas so unique. You are only able to replicate his chairs if you apply this to your designs.
