Gold Prospecting for the Beginner

By William Louis

Prospecting for gold can be both relaxing and profitable. Don't do it the hard way, join an experienced prospector and learn the tips and tricks of the trade. Go to meet up groups on prospecting for gold. Simple metal detectors, gold pans, sieves, and gold dredges are some of the equipment in the toolbox of a gold detector.

The selection of the site will be the major decision if you are taking a gold prospecting holiday. Water is necessary on a camping holiday. Do it the comfortable way and take along your camper trailer or hire it for the duration of your holiday.

Start by looking for a small stream or river as these areas are known for their high gold content. Because gold is heavy it collects in river bends and areas where the water from the flowing stream cannot push the gold any further down the river. If you want to optimize your time then set up your gold dredge and use your gold metal detector while it is processing. The gold dredge will process a great deal of mud and rock before you find gold ore.

When using your gold dredge it is entirely possible to find a large gold nugget. You may not even have to use your other methods of finding gold. When looking for gold it is important to be in a good mood. Some believe that you attract what you are looking for if you are having fun and are in a positive mood. One way to do this is to sing.

As the weather permits this should be a pleasant day outdoors of panning. Get a used metal detector if your budget doesn't permit buying a brand new one. If you find even an ounce of gold on your outing then you can purchase more equipment for next time. Beware of the gold bug, once you find gold you will be hooked for life.
