Enjoy Summer In Your Own Cottage Without Flying South For The Next Holiday

By Adriana Noton

It is possible to enjoy summer in your own cottage when you are able to put some effort into it. Instead of planning a holiday somewhere warm and sunny, you can gather that same experience right at your second home. Cottage properties can become retreats when they are treated properly. Find out how you can put a new spin on an old cottage.

Some cottages have been passed down from other family members and may look more run down than a vacation destination. If you are considering using your outdoor property for the next holiday, then you may want to turn the area into a more attractive place.

A solution to an old looking piece of property and home, may be to put some extra money into it. Instead of spending money going to a tropical place, use that cash to update an older style house. A few tins of paint can improve the look of siding, shape up an old deck and give some light to some old patio furniture. Paint can be a cheap alternative to more costly repairs and furnishings.

A nice garden around a cottage can make the area feel more like a vacation away from home. You may want to place your garden beds in places that you can see from your deck. These garden areas can be large or small and contain various flower types. If you plant flowers that grow back every year, then you wont have to worry about them each and every summer.

There may be some ways to turn old junk into creative designs. An old broken canoe can be used in the garden area. Dirt and flowers can be placed in it to give the area a cottage feel. Old flower pots and watering cans can also be added to a garden to act as accessories.

If your cottage was passed down to you from other family members, then you may want to go through and do a thorough cleaning. You can try getting rid of things at a garage sale or at a second hand shop. There are also places that will take donations. Try to give the inside space a new coat of paint to make the area feel new.

Sometimes it can be about the finishing touches that can make all of the differences. Pick up some colorful vases and bunches of flowers and place them around the outdoor space and inside the home. Candles and garden accessories can turn a deck into a retreat.

Any space can be made beautiful when you are able to put some effort into it. You may have to work at the vacation retreat, but once you are done with the projects and small renovations, you may be surprised with how the area looks. If you really want to enjoy summer in your own cottage, then do the repairs that are needed and turn the space into a private vacation destination. Consult with Haliburton real estate agents about your cottage market value if necessary.
