Some Information About Detectable Warning Tiles

By Lena Shelton

In order to assist visually impaired individuals detectable warning tiles were created and implemented in locations all over the world. Each vendor who offers these units for installation must make sure that the materials pass strict ADA specifications before they can be installed. The surface of these units is covered in little mountains that are designed to notify a change in surfaces.

There are many different guidelines that are being enforced by the American Disabilities Act of 1990. Some of these include the locations for putting in this type of detection material and these include reflection pool locations, areas where vehicles can present hazardous conditions and points where the sidewalk and street come together.

In order to create these pieces, a company uses a polymer that is designed to be resistant to almost anything. The material is resistant to sun rays, salt, gum and spray paint to name a few items, the latter are removable with solution based cleaners. Each of the units weighs in at a light three pounds making them extremely easy to install in all types of situations and areas.

When a company begins searching for their installation materials, they have the option of a few different designs. The designs include a removable and poured in models, the removable is designed for existing locations and the poured in design is great for new installations. The customer is also offered a range of colors including two shades of red, two shades of grey, pearl, black, yellow and light blue.

The special tools for replacement purposes can be purchased through one of the available vendors online. Other tools include masonry tools, a rubber non marking mallet and a quarter inch finish tool that can also be purchased from the vendor. The special removal tool is designed to remove the theft proof fasteners used to secure the materials to the ground.

Additional tools that will come in handy during installation include a circular saw with a diamond blade or a mini grinder. These tools are used to cut the units to fit into required spaces and will not void any warranties. It is highly recommended that a straight edge be used when cutting the material as it will help to make sure the piece fits the first time.

Between design choices and color choices there is a unit for every business interested in installing these units. Some of the companies that have made purchases and installations include government agencies and grocery store chains. Having safety equipment installed is a very important thing to have and it is great to see the world adapting and lending a helping hand.
