How To Make A Small Apartment Feel Larger

By Delfin Joaquin Paris III

Living in an apartment can feel a bit cramped at times. Many people wish to deceive the eye by making their living space appear larger than it actually is. This can be achieved through various ways that can be both easy and affordable.

An excess amount of possessions that are lying about can make a small space feel even smaller. Keeping your space neat and tidy can really be helpful in expanding the size of your spaces appearance. Going for a minimalistic look for your place can really open things up.

Mirrors can also help to make rooms look bigger. By reflecting a part of the room, the eye is tricked into thinking that the space in the mirror is actually an extra part that belongs to the room. While wall mirrors can help create this effect, floor-length mirrors are a bit more successful in doing so.

Windows are helpful in much the same way as mirrors. An open window can help one in a small space to not feel as such. This is because windows can make it appear as though the area outside of the window is indeed an extension of the inner room.

Riding your home of furniture pieces that are upholstered with patterned fabrics can make a room appear larger. Busier patterns such as ones that are paisley or plaid overwhelm the room that they're in. Instead, opt for solid colored furniture and fabrics. These would allow anyone in this space to not be crowded by the fabric choice.

Whatever is applied to the walls of the apartment is very important, whether it be paint or it be wallpaper. Dark colors should be avoided since they can make rooms feel small and oppressive. Instead, chose lighter colors that are able to brighten up rooms and make things more airy.
